On completion of her studies at UNE, Rozzie progressed to a trainee manager’s role at Kerwee Lot Feeders at Jondaryan.

This position exposed her to all facets of the business and provided her with the foundation of knowledge she needed for her next career progression. It also brought about meeting the other foundation members of WOLF.

Being a member for a couple of years and holding positions such as Secretary she then moved back to Holbrook, NSW.

Currently the Operations Manager at Lambpro, Rozzie is taking control of all operations aspects of the business for Australia’s largest prime lamb seedstock business.

I count myself lucky, not as in to win the lottery lucky but in that I was gifted the opportunity to find a passion and love of animals and agriculture. Not many people can always say that they truly enjoy what they do every day.

My parents Bob & Heather both grew up on family farms near Boodua and Evergreen, but have chosen to run a successful business in Toowoomba. Our Grandparents still operated a lucerne and cattle farm in the Lockyer Valley, I would say this is where both my younger sister Megan and I nurtured our love for animals and the rural lifestyle. As a family of 3 we moved to Jondaryan and very soon became a family of 4 when my younger sister Megan was born. Growing up if we could not be found out in the yard playing with our pets we would be over giving a helping hand to our kind neighbours David & Julie Voll. What animals did not live at our house certainly found a home in Julie’s care. Starting our schooling in Jondaryan we later moved to Oakey where we both graduated from Oakey High after completing year 12.

After graduating high school I decided that university was not for me and that a more hands on practical approach was more my style. I completed a Diploma of Applied Science in Agricultural Practices at Emerald Ag College. Here I made lifelong friendships and was able to get a taste of many different areas of Agriculture. After completing my management case study with the help of Jim Cudmore at Kerwee Feedlot I very quickly came to love the fast paced day to day of the feedlot industry.

When I graduated in 2001 my first position was with AAco’s Goonoo Feedlot at Comet in Central Qld.

Learning the ropes and gaining many life experiences I continued to work for them transferring to Meteor Downs near Springsure. After the realisation that I missed the feedlot work, I headed back to the Darling Downs to the then AMH owned Beef City Feedlot. Now back in my element I continued to work within the feedlot industry for the next 15 years. I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing people and have worked in cattle businesses throughout Queensland and New South Wales such as Marlborough, Roma, Condamine, Qurindi and Jondaryan. Spending time within many different types of feedlot operations I was able to build on my cattle handling, leadership and business skills until I was offered opportunities to take on further responsibilities within the team such as Leading Hand, Animal Health Supervisor and Headstockperson.

In 2013 I accepted the role as Livestock Supervisor at Kerwee Feedlot at Jondaryan. A family owned business who prides themselves on producing high quality Wagyu and Angus beef marketed under their own brand to the world. I enjoyed being a part of a team that produced a product you could be proud of. While working at Kerwee I was given many opportunities to grow and develop my business skills and it was then that I decided I would like to study further externally. In November 2017 I graduated from Marcus Oldham with an Associate Degree in Agribusiness Management. After spending 4 years in my role at Kerwee I chose to step away from feedlotting to start a family in Capella in Central Queensland. Moving on 6 years and we are now a family of 4. We have 2 young children Aria 6 and Mason 4. We are very lucky they too share a love for horses and cattle and there is definitely never a dull moment. In the last 2 years I have also be able to start a position with Paringa Gold a family owned Feedlot, farming and cattle business local to Capella. My past experience has helped me to take on the QA & Compliance. This has allowed me a little more flexibility around my hours with the kids but I am really enjoying the challenge and being back doing what I love.

Kym Ryan

President

From a young age Kym developed her love and passion for the agriculture industry especially feed lotting through her dad and extended family working on the land.

It wasn’t until she left university after trying accounting/business, paramedics and nursing that she found her spot at Australian Country Choice (ACC) Opal Creek Feedlot. During her time there she was lucky enough to experience both the livestock and mill teams while working her way up to weekend supervisor/leading hand. This led her to find her passion for teaching, new team members about animal welfare and pen riding as well as mentoring young women within the industry.

Kym joined WOLF in 2019 after experiencing the IGNITE Program finding likeminded women who had a passion for agriculture. Kym has been the president for the last 2 years and currently works for RSA Contractors. This has involved her operating heavy earthwork machinery, working the area of building feedlots and feedlot extensions in WA and QLD.

Georgia Sloss is the Quality and Compliance Manager for Camm Agricultural Group based at Wonga Plains Feedlot, Irvingdale QLD.

Georgia’s passion for feedlotting was inspired by her fathers career in feedlotting and having the opportunity given to her after university studies to become a feedlot employee arose and she jumped at the opportunity.

Georgia has been a founding committee member since the commencement of WOLF in 2015 when she joined the newly formed committee with three others, while working with Amanda at Wonga Plains.

As I grew up on the land I have always had a great passion for the agricultural industry, specially cattle which in 2014 I was given the opportunity to work in the industry I am passionate about.
